Mobile Premier League raises $150 million

Esports platform Mobile Premier League has raised $150 million in a Series E round valuing the company at $2.3 billion.

The financing round was led by private investment firm Legatum Capital, with contributions from existing investors Sequoia, SIG, RTP Global, Go-Ventures, Moore Strategic Ventures, Play Ventures, Base Partners, Telstra Ventures, and Founders Circle Capital.

Mobile Premier League is based in Bengaluru, India, and launched its services in the US this July after two years of operations in Indonesia. It currently has over 85 million registered users worldwide.

The latest funding round will go towards the companys expansion worldwide and will be invested in "its home-grown technology, and drive continued growth in the Indian market," the announcement said.

MPL CEO and co-founder Sai Srinivas commented: "This investment is a recognition of the potential of the Indian gaming and esports industry and an endorsement of the capability of MPL to expand globally.

"MPLs proven success in India and Indonesia encouraged us to launch in the US, one of the worlds largest gaming markets. Our US operations are off to a promising start and were thus fulfilling our resolve to make our platform the esports and gaming hub of the world."

The company raised $90 million last year.
