Electronic Arts is opening another office in Vancouver thats 70% more energy efficient than a standard office building.
The building was previously owned by Canadian outdoor retailer MEC but was sold to a developer for $103 million earlier this year, and is now being leased to EA.
As noted by Video Games Chronicle, the new office acts as an extension to EAs main Burnaby studio, which is responsible for some of the companys biggest sports games, including the FIFA franchise.
In terms of the green elements of the building: rainwater is stored, reused and then captured in the gardens, heat is drawn from underground geo-thermal wells, and sensors monitor sunlight to automatically lower and raise blinds and switch lights on and off.
"Our future move into 1077 Great Northern Way is very much in keeping with EAs multiple green goals, including a global commitment to reduce energy and water consumption," Jon Lutz, EA Vancouvers vice president of strategy, operations and finance told Business in Vancouver.
He continued: "Were excited to have this great new footprint, with amazing amenities for our team, to add to our flagship Burnaby studio as we continue to invest in our teams and leadership in the market.
"The support to health and wellness that are present at the new location not only helps EA attract and retain great talent, but it provides staff with an environment in which they can do their best work."
