Ubisoft surprised Far Cry fans on April 29 by releasing a 60-frames-per-second patch for Far Cry 4 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Far Cry 4 first launched for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC on November 18, 2014, making this most recent patch more than a decade in the making. While the original game saw several technical issues on its release, its still considered one of the stronger entries in the Far Cry franchise thanks to Troy Bakers turn as antagonist Pagan Min, and it even ranked seventh in Polygons games of the year for 2014, due in part to his performance.
“Where Far Cry 4 really shines, though, is in its central antagonist,” former guides editor Dave Tach said at the time. “You, as Ajay Ghale, may be the hero, but the big, bad Pagan Min is the games real star. I havent enjoyed or bought into an omnipresent antagonist this deeply since Joker in Batman: Arkham Asylum. Far Cry 4 feels like a game created by a development team that understands exactly what it wants to deliver. It isnt bloated or confused about what it is. Its a sandbox, and youre the dump truck set free. Ubisoft populates Kyrat with an astounding amount of content and then more or less sets players free to do as they wish.”
If you already liked Far Cry 4, now may be the perfect time for another playthrough to see how wingsuiting and elephant-riding feel with the smoother framerate — especially with the game being added to Xbox Game Pass on April 30.
