Today mobile game publisher Rovio announced that it will open a new studio in Toronto.
Rovio said that its Toronto team will focus on free-to-play casual mobile games while also expanding the companys offerings from its existing studios.
Additionally, Rovio has hired Julie Beaugrand to be Rovio Torontos head of studio and vice president. Previously she was Gameloft Torontos head of studio and Gamelofts VP of North American studios.
"With Julies direction, we can build a world-class team that furthers Rovios expertise in free-to-play casual mobile games, increasing our bandwidth to reach casual audiences," said Rovio CEO Alexandre Pelletier-Normand.
"Creating new teams with strong studio heads and core teams is part of our growth strategy."
The Toronto location will be Rovios second in Canada; it opened the first in Montreal last year.
